Bag - Oak Bluffs Rip Stop Tote Bag

In researching Juneteenth traditions, I came across tons of photos of people enjoying time at the beach. Beaches like Sag Harbor, NY, Oak Bluffs, MA and Highland, MD were founded in response to segregation. Despite the origins, the beaches became these wonderful, safe spaces. Some of the photos are over 70 years old, but the people, their joy and the way they interact with each other all seem familiar today. The photos reminded me of the times I've spent on the beach with my friends. So in a way the design is also a little tribute to female friendship. I wasn't able to see them last year and I hope we can pick up where we left off when se see each other again!

I was so inspired that I turned the design I did for the Oak Bluffs bandana into fabric. I used the fabric to make this tote. I'm so excited about this bag. It's made of nylon ripstop so it is super lightweight. The bag is the perfect size for trips to the beach, pool or the gym. Even though it folds down into a 5" x 7" pouch, this bag can hold a beach towel, bathing suit, book, bluetooth speaker, sunscreen and snacks! Throw it in with your beach gear and use it when you run up to grab a lobster roll or ice cream cone. It's also cute enough to use for day browsing or hanging out in town.
