I’ve done the ‘Big Chop’ twice. Both times, there was that first moment when I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize myself. Both times I told myself ‘maybe this was a big, big mistake.’ A few days later I had moved on to ‘oh well, it will grow out'. And then eventually I get to: ' Hey, I look kind of good with short hair!'
This design is about that process. The term ‘chop’ also refers to choppy or rough seas. Here, like with sailors, the swallows represent finding your way back home to your own beauty and letting go of pre-conceived notions about what you 'should' look like. The rising suns in the border are the Adinkra symbol for progress. And there's a reminder in each corner to be patient with yourself as you grow through your process.
Bandana care: cold water wash in a gentle cycle or by hand. Some color fading is to be expected as the bandana softens with use.
